I read some information about Ivan Patzaichin on Internet: 26 November 1949 – 5 September 2021 He was a Romanian canoe racing coach and retired sprint canoeist. He took part in all major competitions between 1968 and 1984, including five consecutive Olympics, and won seven Olympic and 22 world championship medals, including four Olympic gold medals. This makes him the most decorated Romanian canoeist of all times.
I remember I have made an interview with him some years ago. It has been the first time I have seen him, but I have had the feeling we are very old friends. At the end of that interview (about The Danube Delta people, their life and projects and less about him) Ivan has offered his business card and has invited me in The Danube Delta.
Although he died this morning, he will forever remain in the memory of Romanians and international sports through his achievements.
God rest his soul!
