This week, A. O. Scott looks at a film from Corneliu Porumboiu, one of the directors who has emerged out of the new wave of Romanian cinema. His film, “12:08 East of Bucharest,” looks back at the Romanian revolution of 1989 and asks what the revolution meant to the country and how such a dynamic moment could quickly fade into history. In the film, three characters gather in a drab television studio to commemorate the revolution and to also question whether or not it really happened. Mr. Scott says that one of the elements that makes the film stand out is its “sly, deadpan, understated wit.” Have you seen “12:08 East of Bucharest” or other films from the Romanian new wave? Please share your thoughts.
